Boudoir is a French word meaning “private sitting room, or bedroom.”
This is why my "studio" is set up as a bedroom & I try and keep it fresh by changing it up every so often as to ensure no two sessions are the same, while still keeping to my romantic & boho vibe.
Historically speaking, Boudoir was a celebration of femininity & sensuality through photographs dating back to the 1920's, although women have been long admired through artistic ways for much, much longer, but that's not what this blog is about.
The ebb and flow of boudoir appreciation halted around 1970's when women started posing nude & folks just couldn't imagine how this wasn't considered glorified pornography.
Luckily, we've since ditched the harsh criticism and actually begun to embrace and celebrate the art form once again.
There are many reasons a women may gift herself a boudoir session, but the running theme I've noticed is that it's an act of self-care and a massive self-esteem boost.
It's not unusual for a women to walk into my studio feeling reserved, hesitant, and nervous, but when they walk out, they are glowing and I often get an e-mail or message before they've even got home about how confident and sexy they feel.
That is what this is about.
Women feeling empowered, confident, and you & I celebrating that, together, through artistic means.
Of course many women decide to do this for their partner, as an engagement, birthday, anniversary gift, but all in all, many women do it for themselves.
So, what are you waiting for? Let's do this!
